Common Questions
What Clients Often Ask
How long does a contested divorce typically take in Thailand?
Timelines vary considerably depending on how many matters remain in dispute and how cooperative both parties can be. Straightforward cases may reach resolution within several months; more complex situations involving substantial assets or parenting disagreements may take longer. We will give you a realistic picture based on the specifics of your situation at the outset.
Is a prenuptial agreement legally enforceable in Thailand?
Yes, when properly prepared. Thai law recognises prenuptial agreements provided they meet certain requirements — including that the agreement is made before marriage is registered and that both parties enter it without pressure. We take care that drafting and execution follow the correct procedure to give the agreement its proper standing.
My divorce was obtained in another country. Can I remarry in Thailand?
Foreign divorce decrees require recognition in Thailand before Thai authorities will treat you as legally unmarried here. The process involves translating and authenticating your foreign divorce documents, then making the appropriate application. Our foreign recognition service covers this in full so that your personal status is clear for whatever comes next.
Do you work with clients outside Chiang Mai?
Yes. Many clients are based elsewhere in Thailand or abroad and manage their matter through email and video meetings. Document review, drafting, and correspondence can be handled remotely. Where attendance at a Thai office or hearing is necessary, we can act on your behalf or arrange for your visit when required.
How are your fees structured?
We use fixed service fees for each of our three practice areas, stated clearly on this site and confirmed before any work begins. Contested divorce proceedings are ฿20,800; prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are ฿13,500; foreign marriage or divorce recognition is ฿5,800. If your situation has particular complexity, we will discuss any variation with you before proceeding.
What happens at the initial consultation?
The first meeting is a listening session. We ask you to share what you are facing; we may ask some clarifying questions; and we offer a preliminary sense of the process and your options. Nothing is rushed. You leave with a clearer picture of what the path ahead looks like, without any obligation to proceed.
